This mixed media accordion booklet was inspired by a quote from Thomas Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow. The quote reads, "In their brief time together, Slothrop forms the impression that this octopus is not in good mental health, though where's his basis for comparing?” I felt the combination of decorative papers, gouche, and printed words properly conveyed the unfortunate mental health implied in the quote. Also, although the author may not have been talking about a literal octopus, the book extends to be fully readable on one side and look both as a tentacle and ocean waves as a whole.
